Who are we?
Rainbow Circus is a voluntary organisation created to provide circus education for our local community.
Rainbow Circus was created in 2024 to provide tuition, education and social support through the circus arts for children, home education families and adults. We specialise in working with vulnerable & socially isolated persons, those with SEND needs and children with high ACE scores. Rainbow Circus aims to create a social, community circus space which is inclusive and accessible for all. Our diverse range of work includes: community workshops, training programmes and classes, professional development opportunities for aspiring and established performers and the creation and performance of circus arts. Since its creation Rainbow Circus has been involved in a variety of community events such as Tavistock Pride, Callington MayFest (funded by Callington CAVe), Tavistock Fringe Festival, Whitleigh Big Local and many other community fun days providing workshops and performances for the public to promote community cohesion and physical, social and mental well-being through the circus arts. Rainbow Circus has provided classes to children, home education families and adults. Our testimonies attest to their profound impact on participants. We are proud to make a positive difference through healthy recreation activities.
Aims and Objectives
• To advance the education of the public in the subject of Circus Arts.
• The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for partaking in the Circus Arts.
• To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Tavistock and the surrounding area the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.
• To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society.
• To advance in life and help young people through:
◦ the provision of recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life.
◦ providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.
Products and Services
We run varied programmes for youth, adult and elderly audiences aimed to promote a wide variety of physical and mental recreation through the circus arts. Our programmes provide social supports, mentoring and a sense of community which develops social skills, readiness skills and body awareness. We work with local communities, businesses, charities and voluntary organisations to promote positive outcomes and social inclusion through recreation. We promote active citizenship through our community work and social circus enterprises to benefit the physical, social and mental well-being of our beneficiaries. We run public workshops in the community providing access to the circus arts providing equipment and tuition. The service is currently completely mobile (and a mobile element will continue even once permanent premises have been secured); equipment and activities are always tailored to the participants needs and requirements. We create performances and shows for the public to showcase the skills and practice of the members of the
community circus, professionals and aspiring artists to entertain and educate the public on the circus arts. We believe that by creating a social circus space which is community driven, and reactive to the persons in our
locality and surrounding areas we can make real social change.
Our experience and research has demonstrated the plethora of skills developed through the circus arts and how it positively impacts its participants and wider community. Our theory of change info-graphic clearly identifies a wide variety of expertise which can be developed through the circus. These social skills and readiness skills are transferable to education, employability, social inclusion and a persons own sense of worth. Community Circus gives its participants a sense of community and belonging which will give them a choice and a voice which may not be available in other areas of their lives. We encourage our beneficiaries to contribute and engage with our services provision, meaning our services are flexible and may evolve to suit their needs. We believe that everyone is entitled to choice, empowerment and participation. Through the circus arts we believe that we can support our participants, empower them, include them, and give them opportunities to develop the skills and holistic well-being which will permeate through their life and their community.

What do we need?
We are currently seeking financial support in order to open our own space that would enable us to effectively deliver our services to the local population, whilst relieving many of the current strains we are experiencing whilst being a fully-mobile operation with no set base.
We have found a suitable location and are looking for sponsorship to help us with the initial payment of 4 months rent and any extra fees, in order to secure this tenancy.
The Rainbow Circus space would be an accessible industrial unit where we can provide classes, workshops & tuition to our students, members, volunteers and the wider community as a whole. We would also have space to create our own costumes and props, which would greatly benefit our environmental impact and enable us to provide better services to our local employers, and facilitate access to costume & props that our students from disadvantaged backgrounds would be other wisely unable to access. We can also facilitate photo shoots & filming, as well as being able to provide an accessible venue for other community projects to take place.
Storage is presently an issue for us, and our own space would allow us to safely & effectively store our wide range of specialist equipment in the appropriate conditions and ensure its longevity.
